5 Apps to Help You Live a Greener Life

Hey friends, Cindy here- happy Thursday! This week I wanted to share a few of my favourite and most used Green Apps. Whether you are just starting your sustainable journey or you live every day with the environment in mind, I think there is something helpful here for everyone!

This is by far one of my favourite apps. Each time you use Ecosia to search the web, a tree is planted. Like other search engines, Ecosia uses ads to make a profit. What makes the difference is that they use this profit to plant trees where they are needed most.

They have planted 95,312,068 trees and counting, with each search removing about 1 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere! Incredible right? You can add it right onto Microsoft Edge or Chrome for an easy transition.

Ecosia publishes its financial reports and tree planting receipts right here, for full transparency. LOVE IT.

If you're anything like me, you are constantly checking the back of beauty and personal care products and searching up the ingredients to make sure they are safe. Or maybe you love the idea of that, but it sounds like too much work? This used to be a major pain in the butt, especially when in a rush, but Think Dirty has made it all SO much easier!

All you have to do is scan the barcode of the product in question and Think Dirty will pull up the dirty, or clean, details. This has made shopping clean a breeze, especially with the "Dirty Meter" rating system. Taking impossible to read ingredients and breaking down the health impacts!

Okay, this one may not be for everyone...myself included but I will continue to try and here's why. EcoWake is an alarm clock that will plant trees if you wake up on time. Here's the catch...there's no snooze button. I know, I know. But it's for the better, so what I've decided to do is set my alarm a little later using EcoWake and wake up to my regular, snoozable, alarm at the time I would love to be getting up. Call it cheating...but my trees are still being planted ;)

Another game-changing app. Good On You provides you with brand ratings, important news, and articles regarding the brand you are interested in. Their database currently includes more than 2,000 fashion brands that are assessed and rated based on their impact on people, the planet and animals.

If the brand you search doesn't make the grade, Good On You will recommend better options that meet your sustainable needs. Great right?!

Good On You also offers styling tips and the latest news on ethical fashion.

This app is not as flashy and exciting as the rest, but it's SO important! iRecycle helps you sort through your bin and find the proper place to recycle items correctly if you can't do so at home. iRecycle also allows you to search for any material, from engine degreaser to branches, and will provide you with a drop off location near you, phone number and collection schedule if available. Hello, Spring cleaning helper!

I hope these awesome apps will help make your sustainable journey a little easier. I know sometimes it can be hard to add an extra step, but these apps are a brilliant way to help you make smarter decisions on a daily basis and let's be honest, it doesn't get any easier than switching your search engine!
